Outgoing Exchange Students

Please note that UCT students wishing to study overseas, are only eligible if they have obtained their degree at UCT or will be commencing the following year into their final year of study with the UCT Law Faculty. Students from OTHER UCT FACULTIES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE to apply for overseas study.

Application procedures.

Exchange application forms should be completed after carefully reading the procedures and information, and only thereafter filling in all the necessary information.

* Please specify (in the order of preference) a maximum of (2) institutions that you wish to attend. This form needs to be returned before or on the closing date 0f 5 April 2013 together with the following documents. Refer to the list of Exchange Partners when selecting the institution you wish to study at.

* Letter of motivation (why you wish to study at the particular institution)

* Curriculum Vitae

* 2 reference letters from Law Faculty academics.

* Previous year/ level LLB transcripts (this would be your intermediate level if you are in your final level of study)

Please note that depending upon the university you have chosen and their favourable reply, terms and conditions of study will vary slightly at different universities. In 95% of cases tuition is free.

How will I know whether my application was successful or not?
Once the Exchange Committee has met and a decision has been made the Exchanges Administrator the Faculty Office will advise you on the status of your application.

Should your application be successful, it is entirely your responsibility to apply directly to the Exchange Institution of your choice.

European and American terms are different from ours!
Term dates in America and Europe are as follows: (exact dates may vary slightly from university to university, therefore these dates are only approximate and should be confirmed).

America:
Fall Semester - early Sept to mid Dec (commencement of academic year)
Winter Semester - early Jan to late April
Spring/Summer semester - early May to mid August

Europe:
First Semester - early September (or early Oct) to early / late Feb
Second Semester - early February to end June

United Kingdom:
First Semester - October to end Feb
Second Semester - April to May
Third Semester - June to October
