The School for Advanced Legal Studies at the University of Cape Town is one of the most energised postgraduate law studies environments on the continent.  With academics who are recognised experts in their fields (see the long list of fields below), the School for Advanced Legal Studies offers a number of different postgraduate options - including more than eight specialist Postgraduate Diplomas, LLM programmes (including masters by research only, by coursework & dissertation, as well as a professional masters focused primarily on coursework), as well as MPhil opportunities for those without an LLB but nevertheless engaged in law-related research.

Apart from the expertise and excellence offered at the School for Advanced Legal Studies, UCT also offers a superb, well-resourced, international postgraduate academic environment in the breathtaking surrounds of Cape Town - offering a rich learning experience by any standards.

Our internationally recognised programmes are taught and/or supervised by distinguished South African and international academics and practitioners, with the added advantage of a rich mix of local and international students - bringing a resource of insights, experience and knowledge from elsewhere into the postgraduate milieu.

The coursework programmes usually start in February or July of each year, and as no correspondence courses are offered, candidates must be resident in Cape Town for the duration of these programmes.
