Supporting Excellence and Innovation in Law Education
The Faculty of Law has a long tradition of generous support from its alumni, friends, philanthropic foundations and corporates. With this support, the Faculty has been able to establish an Endowment Fund to provide scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the order of about R1,5million per annum. We have also been able to support and develop a number of research units - covering Intellectual Property, Law & Society, Environmental Law, Labour Law and other critical focus points for law-based research. We have received generous support for our two law clinics - the UCT Law Clinic and the Refugee Rights Unit, both of which are registered law clinics and which provide opportunity for students to complete their community service requirement for the LLB programme.
In addition, our donors have ensured that we have been able to establish a Law Faculty Writing Centre, and that we are able to run a Preliminary Year Academic Support System for undergraduates - amongst numerous other core projects. We are constantly working on developing initiatives that ensure we are able to support innovative research, ensure that students are able to fund and complete their studies, and ensure that the UCT Law Faculty is everything that a top South African Law Faculty should be! This is only possible with the generous support of our donors - for all funding sectors.
