
The Committee's function is to promote research in the Faculty, further the well-being of those engaged in research and socially responsive activities, and administer research- related matters in the Faculty of Law.

The Committee meets three times a year.
The Research Ethics Committee is a sub-committee of the Research and Social Responsiveness Committee, its members are Ms Julie Berg; Mr Shane Godfrey; Professor Hanri Mostert, Ms Anne Pope and Elrena van der Spuy. Centre For Legal And Applied Research (CLEAR)
The responsibilities of the administrator are:
The objectives of the Centre are:
- To support and advance research in the Faculty of Law (FoL) by research units.
- To identify key research themes for CLEAR and to ensure that wherever possible there is co-operation between the research units involved in themes (avoiding duplication).
- To facilitate development by the research units of a body of theory on the relationship between law and society.
- To maximise co-operation and develop synergies between research units and individual researchers.
- To develop ways to increase the research output of research units and to ensure that all research is of the highest quality.
- To ensure conformity with ethical standards of research.
- To build a strong team of researchers within CLEAR and continually develop these researchers.
- To develop strong links between the member units of CLEAR and teaching within the FoL, feeding research back into teaching (particularly at postgraduate level) and vice versa.
- To represent and promote CLEAR (and its member units and researchers) within the university as regards research, particularly with the Research Office and similar bodies.
- To raise the profile of CLEAR (and its member units) within the broader community.
- To promote CLEAR and its member units amongst donors and potential donors (and facilitate fund-raising on the part of member units).
- To gather information pertinent to the research efforts of member units and share this within CLEAR.
